Musical Director -
Maureen Cameron |
|
Maureen Cameron arrived in Australia from the United Kingdom in February 2004 to take up her new position as Musical Director of Cairns Brass. Scottish born Maureen made her mark on the Australian brass music scene within weeks of her arrival by leading her new charges, Cairns Brass 1 and Cairns Brass 2, to victory by taking out the Queensland State Brass Band Championships in B and D Grades respectively. The BBC 2003 'Teacher of the Year', conductor of the National Youth Festival Champions and cornet player with the renowned Fodens and CWS Glasgow are but a few of Maureen Cameron's achievements. Maureen's current position as Music Coordinator at St Andrew's Catholic College allows her to continue to teach and develop young musicians throughout the Cairns community. This is Maureen's last gig as conductor of Cairns Brass..."Cairns Brass has become my Australian family and the generosity, community spirit and dedication of the players has been incredible. I'm handing over the baton to spend more time with my baby girl and husband and look forward to having some fun playing my cornet again!"
